5 Things To Do With Nutella on World Nutella Day

Nutella5 Feb is World Nutella Day. American blogger Sara Rosso liked Nutella so much that she ideated on dedicating a day to unite all Nutella fans together. I am a Nutella fan and know of crazier fans. So this post is dedicated to all who are nuts for Nutella.

Shaken And Stirred
Amp up the ordinary shake at home with a generous helping of Nutella. Goes best with banana shake with crushed walnuts thrown on top.

French Toast
I find French toasts rather versatile. A lot of variations are also served in restaurants across the world. Honey and syrups have been partners of choice for long. If in the mood for cheating, then dollop up a thick Nutella creme, with some dusted sugar on top. If you think it is not sinful enough, add more decadence with whipped cream and choco chips.

Mousse Trap
Don your pastry chef hat. Get some creme fraiche from the supermarket. Incorporate grated chocolate (better if bitter). Add some thick Nutella. Try and not salivate. Add a dash of crushed sea salt. And a thin slice of orange. Freeze. Eat. Repeat.

Don’t blame yourself for being lazy. It is a state of mind. This is why there is Nutella to bail out poor souls that feel hungry. Take a slice of bread. Slather up some salted butter. No need to go easy with this. For the other slice of bread, spread Nutella nice and slow. Make sure you cover every corner of the slice – it will add to the taste (!!). Slap them together and eat.

Still remains the best way to have Nutella. Get a spoon. Open a bottle of Nutella. Spoon in a mouthful. Close your eyes. There, you are now in Nutella heaven.

 Have a wonderful #NutellaDay!

The Sum Of Us

THE SUM OF US Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato

Math was never a favourite of mine. Let’s say, I didn’t have the appetite for crunching numbers. But when I saw this equation, I liked it instantly. The Sum Of Us. An urban, chic cafe that claims good stock, since it is the 2nd offering by the famed duo Tom and Serg, as they do their coffee, since they have their own roastery.

It was a lunch meeting venue. It was for me. You are welcome to make a special visit. Fear is that in lunch meetings, the focus is never the food. But since the meeting was food related, I made sure to be as shameless and gluttonous as I possibly could.

The Sum Of Us - Double for me
The Sum Of Us – Double for me

Began with my hostess’s recommendation of a double Sum Of Us burger that included fresh tomato, lettuce, cheddar, pickles with a side of mayo and fries. It was a tasty, fresh burger, no doubt, but would have preferred the mayo and fries to have more flavour. My partner gobbled on a soft-shelled crab burger. He only resumed conversation when the burger got over.

What followed, was beautiful indeed! A fat slice of salted caramel French toast with a dollop of mascarpone cream cheese, fresh banana and candied macadamia nuts. You should have seen the plate when it got over. Bet they didn’t have to put it in the dishwasher.

And when TSOU claimed a good understanding of coffee, it certainly called for drinking a cup, as we sat outside enjoying the changing Dubai weather. I agree that good coffee needs full fat milk for a ‘fuller’ taste and texture. And coffee that scalds and scales your palette is not something that will happen here because all coffee is served at 65 degrees C. The good cappuccino was downed quickly over the remaining conversation.

Will be back at TSOU, primarily to try out their breakfast options and a few other sundries.

Parisienne Brunch at La Cantine du Fauborg

Will take time to get this name on your tongue. Meanwhile La Cantine du Fauborg is trying to put Paris closer to your tongue, for you fine connoisseurs.

Brush up on your French when you go here, specially since they boast of a Française brunch (the zillionth brunch in Dubai). Reservations preferred. And despite how you may want to roll over for a brunch, this one will need dressing up. Caution there.

The joie de vivre is the cheese platter. It was like paying hommage to frômmage! From Blue to Gouda to Goat and several encrusted cheese were accompanied by fruits, chocolate chips, crusty bread et al. A few were direct lifts from the supermarket, although I would have preferred some rustic French stuff.

The other offerings were cold cuts, salads, gateaux and ah, yes, the delightful french toast!

Sit down, get pampered by the team there. Sip a chilled rosé (or the wine of your choice), nibble on your cheese and enjoy the live music. If you want some more food, ask for eggs done your style. The benedict was very fine.

Want more food? Upgrade your brunch for a few dirhams more and enjoy main course.
